Microsoft is working to increase Xbox Live Gold subscription prices soon. The software giant is starting to notify existing Xbox Live Gold members of changes in certain markets, and will see the price rise by $ 1 to $ 10.99 a month in the US and $ 5 for a three-month membership.
The pricing for twelve months and six months is also going up, but the increase won’t affect existing subscribers here. Three months will now be priced at $ 29.99, and six months will be priced at $ 59.99. Microsoft also allows Xbox Live Gold members to transfer their remaining gold time to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (up to 36 months). Transferring means if you have 11 months of Xbox Live Gold remaining in your account, you can upgrade to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and convert it to 11 months of Ultimate at no additional cost.
Unless you subscribe to Xbox Live Gold, the price for the service goes from $ 60 annually to $ 120. Microsoft has quietly removed its 12-month option Last year, which was $ 60. Sony is still offering 12 months of PlayStation Plus for $ 60, and it is unclear what Microsoft will provide to justify the sudden jump in prices.
Many had hoped, and expected, that Microsoft would eliminate Xbox Live fees completely, or at least allow free games to access multiplayer features on Xbox consoles for free. This is clearly not the case now, and for many, this marks the first Xbox Live Gold price increase in years. “In many markets, the price of Xbox Live Gold has not changed in years, and in some markets, it has not changed for more than 10 years,” Xbox Live Gold team says.
The changes will not take effect until at least 45 days after Xbox Live subscribers receive a message from Microsoft informing them of the price increase. Some areas have already started getting notifications, but most have not. Microsoft says: “If you’re in an area where rates are adjusting, you’ll receive an email and message center notification over the next month to let you know the new price for your membership.”
